Deborah Ellis was born in a small town in Ontario. Currenty, she lives in Simcoe County in Ontario. She is the author of many sucsessful books such as the Breadwinner & many more. She has won numerous awards and is a anti war actavist. Her books express life in points of view that are really realistic.

Sacred Leaf is pretty good but it's a little real,kind of like a non-fiction book.it's about a bor named Diego who's parents were both in jail.So he ran away,then got taken in by the Richardos to plant cocaleros since the Richardos are coca farmers,Diego helped too.the cocaleros were turned into powder in America,and it's very addictive,so the America Goverment pushed the Bolivian Goverment to destroy all of the cocaleros,so much adventures...

The story of Sacred Leaf is amazing. It has subject matter that appeals to adults and makes it in a way kids can understand it. I especially enjoyed the back of the book where it tells you what the spanish words mean. What I did not enjoy in this book was the ending. They made a perfectly good story and just made a twist ending that makes you want to get the next line of books. But I have to admit the chacters such as Diego are very complex which makes this book complex but a good read.
Opinion
Sacred Leaf is a work of genius!It tells you about the great rebellion of Bolivia. The story shows how the cocaleros (coca farmers) fought for the rights to grow coca (ingriediant in cocaine). It's even great for people who don't like history or geography. I would recommend this story because when you read it, you feel like your actually there!
